BLACK AUGUST, BLACK UNITY

FEBRUARY | MARCH | APRIL | MAY | JUNE | JULY | MUTUAL AID

SEPTEMBER INDEX

My mental state has been heavily affected

by the ongoing assault on Black power.

Black August is about our liberation:

the Haitian Revolution, George Jackson

(San Quentin Six alongside Angela Davis,

Sundiata Tate), the first March on

Washington, the birthdays

of Fred Hampton, Marcus Garvey,

Opal Tometi...Toni Morrison's

ancestral return and so many more.

August is a month of historic change,

and symbolically precedes the fall.

Zimbabwe, the U.S., Africans in Asia,

Black Caribbean activists and LGBTQ+

skinfolk in Europe may not have the same

struggle. But we all do face antiblackness.

How will change manifest in Black August

to give us the necessary power?

Wait and see.

I know you have the power within yourself.

Even if intangible now. Believe that it’s there.
